I love to find discrepancies in books, my favorite book to look in is the bible. Why, because there are so many different versions and translations of the bible, something is bound to get messed up somewhere and there is sure to be some crazy story to follow....
My favorite discrepancy is the story of Lilith. You know who I am talking about right? The first woman. Wait, what? You think Eve was the first woman? Well then, you better read the first 2 chapters of the bible again. Look closely, in the first chapter of Genesis you will notice that it is said that man and woman was created at the same time and they will rule over everything that moves. Now read through chapter 2..... It says man was created out of the earth, then a bunch of stuff about Adam ruling over animals, then he is placed in the garden, then woman was created to serve man. Um? ok? But the last chapter said they were created at the same time and given the same orders, they were equal, right? I'm confused. (You know the other question I have about this part of the bible, in chapter 2, God only tells Adam not to eat the fruit, Eve wasn't created yet, so really how did she know how forbidden it really was? God screwed up and now all woman are punished? Really?
Back to Lilith. For some Lilith symbolizes feminism, being
created at the same time as man and to rule the same as man, some
believe Adam wouldn't stand for this and wanted to rule over everything,
including woman, so he tossed her aside and God created him a woman
that he could rule over. Lilith never got over this, to put it nicely, it ticked her off and she turned into a
demon, or so the mythical story goes.
So was there a woman before Eve? and was her name Lilith? Well, some people look to large churches for the answer. So let me draw your attention to the Notre Dame Cathedral, At the entrance there is a carving of Adam and Eve, and between them is a female serpent, maybe Lilith? Ok you want more, Michelangelo painted her in his picture of Adam and Eve, maybe possibly the one who tempted them to eat the apple? Want something more trustworthy? Lets go back to the bible. Isaiah 34: 13-15 mentions Lilith by name. "14, Wildcats will meet hyenas, the goat demon will call to his friends, and there Lilitht will lurk and find her resting place." This part of the bible talks about a dark place where demons will live. Yes, demons are in the bible!
Oh well, this is all in fun. I'm not saying that in the first 2 chapters of the bible that there was a secret first divorce, but it is fun to look though these things and read the stories and myths from other cultures in the world that go with them and just see how everything is connected, for me this connection is just one more thing to prove to others that God is real, the bible is real. Lilith may be real or just a fun mythological woman that is fun to research and read about, that is for each of you to decide on your own.
